She had always known husbands were useless, yet she married two of them anyway. Growing up in a loud neighbourhood where privacy was a luxury nobody could afford, and girlhood came with an unwritten manual everyone expected her to follow: stand properly, sit properly, don't laugh too loud, don't smile too much, and in whatever you do, never talk back at men. Raised without room for opinions, a daughter's only purpose was to eventually become someone's wife.
Sade became a wife twice over. First, to cover a shame that was never hers to carry. Then again, because apparently, a woman without a husband is like a goat anybody can drag anywhere.
When she makes her second marriage, she swears it would be different, but when forbidden desires enters her life in the most inconvenient form, Sade decides she is done playing by the rules. Now, she must choose what kind of woman she wants to be: remain the sharp-mouthed obedient wife everyone expects, or become the dangerous woman who chooses herself for the first time.
Funny, raw, and unapologetically Nigerian, Husband Is Useless is a story about tradition, societal expectations, rebellion, betrayal, and the slow fire that builds inside a woman who has been told to endure everything. . until the day she stops.
